Samick NSG Pianos feature half-duplex scale design
In recent years performance pianists have
been demanding more and more volume from their pianos. As a consequence,
piano engineers developed the ‘duplex’ scale design. In technical
terms, duplex is where the small section of the strings between the
tuning pins and the agraffes is designed to add extra volume, with the
hope that the extra harmonics will be in tune with the note that is
being played.
The end result is that although
full-duplex pianos do generate more volume, they also generate more
extraneous noise and dissonant harmonics. While extra volume is
beneficial in a concert piano being played on stage, it becomes quite
wearing in the typical home music teacher setting or in smaller studios
To address this important problem, the Samick
NSG pianos have been designed with a half-duplex If you look inside the Samick
NSG grand pianos, you will see red felt woven through this section of
the strings. The reason for the felt, is to stop the noise and dissonant
harmonics that are generated in full-duplex designed pianos.
The Samick
NSG pianos do not produce extraneous harmonics and consequently sound
more like classic German grand pianos. We believe this is a sound that,
as a music teacher, you can enjoy day in and day out without becoming
tired and jaded from any extra unwanted harmonics.
